Phil Baedecker

The next time you go online to our Website, much gratitude is due to Phil Baedecker, whose yeoman service helped make this techno-dream a reality. An experienced computer programmer but  a neophyte in Web page development, the industrious Phil generously gave more than 200 hours of his time to bring the AC to the online world -- and is continuing to work on improving it.

A man of many talents and accomplishments, Phil has acted with various Washington area theatre groups for 24 years, in a career that has already spanned more than 50 years.  Some of his favorite roles? Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof; Elwood P. Dowd in Harvey; and the title roles in Life With Father and J.B. He has been pursuing professional acting assignments since 1996, has taken classes at Studio and Shakespeare, and says his recent appearance in Washington Stage Guild's Lucia Mad was a direct result of the AC Lottery auditions. Other pro credits include Keegan, Studio, Source, and extra work on Runaway Bride and Random Hearts. And look for Phil in the Shakespeare Theatre's upcoming production of The Merchant of Venice

Bitten by 'the bug' at the age of eight, Phil was asked to play the page  in an Ohio University production of Antigone, in his hometown of Athens, Ohio. He played youngsters in University productions until he physically outgrew the roles, and took acting classes while majoring in Chemistry. (Where were your priorities, Phil?!?!).  His Ph.D. is from the University of Kentucky, and post-doctoral credits include world-famous scholarly places such as MIT and UCLA.

Phil spent several years as the Chief of Analytical Chemistry at the US Geological Survey.  His chemistry career covers myriad disciplines; among many others, he studied meteorites, moon rocks, and the effects of acid rain on the marble and limestone monuments and buildings of  D.C. and other locales. And to him, "Love on the Rocks" may be a good thing: his wife Mary Jo is also a USGS Research Scientist.
